在列多公路某处的康复营地里，史迪威将军脱帽对着一群中国退伍军人讲话。战争遗留下的伤残军人先在此学习新的生存技能——铁匠、编织、木工等，然后离开军旅回到平民生活。这个营地现在由中美共同管理经营，大约有两百多名退伍士兵（全都有不同程度的伤残）。
